3. Stay away from mucus-forming foods, such as milk and cheese, and large quantities of bread (use brown rice instead), soft drinks, chocolate and cakes.

4. Eat as many fresh vegetables and fruits as you can daily, and include fish high in omega oils (salmon, tuna or sardines) three times a week. They are good for preventing chest complaints.

5. Eat thick homemade soups with fresh vegetables, barley and split peas.

6. Use garlic and onions as frequently as possible, and include horseradish when you can.

7. Include spices, especially ginger and cayenne, in your food.

8. Drink peppermint, fresh mint or ginger tea daily.

9. Keep alcohol to a minimum, especially champagne and white wine, which are high in additives and can trigger asthma attacks.

10. Make sure your iron levels are not low. Ask your doctor for a check well before winter.

11. One combination garlic and horseradish tablet after each meal will assist sinus sufferers.

12. Take one vitamin C tablet with bioflavonoids (500 mg of each) twice a day.

13. Take an immune-boosting tablet made from either echinacea, cat’s claw, astragalus and andrographis or any combination. Ask your health store for this supplement.
